Pray for hope, he will give it to you

There is a greater force at work that is fighting for you even when you feel like your situation is   hopeless.

There are very few times that I have lost hope in this life, but recently I have been struggling with a less than perfect situation. I  compare it to the thorn the apostle Paul had in his side, whether it was spiritual or physical, either way it’s painful and without resolution.

I felt like I was trying to knock down a brick wall with nothing but a small hammer and my own two feet. Imagine doing that for days that turn into weeks, confident that at some moment with enough force and pressure of my own it was going to crack.

Well after months on end of beating this wall my confidence plummeted. Thinking, “what if it never budges… ever?” Soon I found myself calling for an S.O.S that I was certain would never come. Finding myself floating on a raft that was losing air.

This thing, this brick wall, this mountain (not climbable I might add, unless I turn into Spiderman)  no matter what I said, how I felt, or what I did was going to move, crack or budge that wall.  Nothing  in my human form was going to make that wall fall.

I put down my tool after moments of pure exhaustion,  crying,  and screaming. I sat, and did not pray right away. I did pray eventually however; surrendering this ridiculousness over to a God that I know is not dead. A God that has continually shown up for me  time after time again.

Surely without fail, and what seemed like years, a small crack emerged. I mean small, too small for me to be able to use my tool.  Big enough for me to see the light on the other side.

The thing about that small crack of light is that it may not get any bigger for awhile. In fact, it might stay just like that for another year or two but at some point its going to get bigger, and with it an answer, perhaps a resolution.

Pray for hope, he will give it to you, he knows without it we are completely lost.

Shine Hope: What are you doing for others?

” Life’s most persistent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” An infamous quote by the incredible Dr Martin Luther King Jr. This question continues to burn in my heart with passion, leading me to ask you, “Fellow humans, what are we doing in this life if we aren’t helping others?”

I believe that we all have to account for the life we lived while we were on this earth. I wonder if one of the questions we will be asked is this, “What kind of impact did you have on others? Did you hurt a lot of people did you help a lot of people?” Could you imagine if the growth of our valiant spirit is determined by the positive impact we have in this world?

If doing something for another human being was a daily intent, not only would you be positively filling up the worlds cup, but in turn you are also making an incredible impact on yourself! Living a life helping others surely molds you into something magnificent in the process.

5 positive things that come from helping others:

  • Spreading hope in a world that is thirsty for it
  • Fulfilling a need for another human being
  • Molding yourself into a stronger kinder person
  • Showing your children, not telling…remember they watch everything you do!
  • Attracting like minded people -if you are attracting like minded people just imagine what you can accomplish together.

Shine hope: Has anyone told you today, “I believe in you”?

If  no one has said to you today “I believe in you” please allow me!

I don’t know what you are going through I don’t know if anyone does, but I do know that life is full of landmines especially on the way to success. I am going through that journey myself and as I was dropping my son off for school I wondered what my brain would do if a stranger came up to me, made clear eye contact, and said with authenticity “I believe in you”.

Would it change the course of my day? Yes it would. It would give me that pat on the back I needed and would confirm to me that I am heading in the right direction. Just keep moving forward, or as Dory says ” Just keep swimming”.

So in light of my own crazy journey I am giving you that pat on the back. “Keep swimming”.

Action steps:

1. Look in the mirror and say to yourself “I believe in you”.

2. Take your kids look them in the eye and say, “I believe in you”.

3. Then say it to a random stranger. You never know, it just might put them right back on course.

Future Holds Hope in the palm of it’s Hands

hand-339606_1920

Hope is a powerful thing. The dictionary defines hope as “A feeling of expectation”. I think it’s fair to say that recent tragic events that have shaken our world have caused people to lose hope. Hope for their lives to change, hope for a sickness to end, and hope that one night they won’t cry themselves to sleep missing a loved one. Losing hope is dangerous, and in my opinion more dangerous than losing faith.

What about giving the word “hope” more respect than the word “feeling” has to offer. I think it deserves much more credit than that. Feelings can change in an instant. Someone can walk into a room and change the feelings of the people that occupy it, faster than the blink of an eye.

However, the word “expectationin the definition suggests that there is a future ( Jeremiah 29:11). Possibly, a future that has the capacity to hold abundant life for you.  Future holds hope in the palm of its hands, and to me that’s incredibly powerful.

Remember that little girl swinging on a grey and creaky swing-set fighting for hope, hope for something more? She was swinging with all her might to get high enough to see just over that red barn.

My hope today that as you read this you being to swing with all your might so that you too can see over your “red barn”. That one day your life will change for the better, hope that your sickness will end, and hope that one day your heart will heal.

Have we lost the ability to be compassionate in vulnerable situations?

Compassion, defined in the dictionary as a sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Shining Hope’s definition of compassion: empathy, wrapped up in a genuine desire to show love for another. Compassion, a noun that has been buried under bitterness and hurting hearts for decades. Unfortunately, judgmental minds and societal pressures have seemingly overpowered the innate human desire to show kindness and compassion to another in vulnerable situations. In a world full of confusion and chaos, never underestimate the power of compassion, and the ability to shine light into the darkness of a hurting heart.

The young woman walked up and down the grocery isle, with her very active and spunky 2 year-old chattering away in the cart. Her eyes scrolled the shelf..ughh, she thought, I know it’s here, it’s my last item. She looked down at the WIC check,  1- 16 oz whole grain whole wheat food, it read. Anxious thoughts capturing her mind, If get up there and it’s not an approved item then I will stand there embarrassed,  while people in back of me impatiently wait.  Reluctantly , the young woman went up to the front anyway, failing to find anyone to help her in the store on a busy Saturday morning. “Excuse me,” she said to the grocery clerk. “I cannot find this bread item. It’s always right over there on the shelf and says it’s WIC approved?” The clerk not eager to help the young woman, reached for her  loud speaker and said,”WELFARE check, aisle 4. WELFARE check aisle 4″ Appalled and humiliated, the young woman stepped back and shamefully  pushed her cart and her little chatterbox back to aisle 4.

Fighting for hope

swing-1081846_1920

One of my earliest memories I have is swinging on a grey and creaky swing-set; on a beautiful farm when I was about four years old. There was a red barn  that set in a clear low valley and every time I sat down on that swing it was my priority to get high enough to see over that red barn.  I remember thinking, “If I can just get high enough to see over that barn, I know I will be able to see what else is out there.” Pretty radical thoughts at the tender age of four.  Well, I still have those radical thoughts and that four year old little girl was a dreamer with a creative imagination. Except, life’s trials blew her little light out for a awhile, but somewhere deep in her spirit lied a will to fight, to fight for the hope of something more.

This is just the beginning of my story. With Shining Hope’s blog I will fill in the blanks. By doing so, I hope to inspire you and share some resources with you that helped me climb out of the darkness and back into the light.  Stay tuned…….
